WASHINGTON - Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) has led a letter to United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, expressing concern over the lack of effort in addressing Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and advocating for the establishment of a National Traumatic Brain Injury Task Force to improve the treatment and care of TBI patients.
Speaking on behalf of the letter, Congressman Luttrell emphasized the need for more progress in the field of TBI neuroscience and the overall improvement of treatment and care for TBI patients. He urged Secretary Becerra to support the recommendations made by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) in their 2022 report titled "Traumatic Brain Injury: A Roadmap for Accelerating Progress."
"We are writing to you about the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) efforts to address Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). While I do acknowledge there has been some progress in the TBI neuroscience field, we are still concerned about the lack of overall improvement in the treatment and care that Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) patients receive. We would encourage you to support the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine's (NASEM) recommendations for advancing TBI awareness, education, care, and research found in the 2022 NASEM Report entitled Traumatic Brain Injury: A Roadmap for Accelerating Progress," the letter states.
The letter, which can be read in full here, was signed by several representatives, including Sarah Jacobs (D-CA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Collins (R-GA), Rich McCormick (R-GA), Jeff Jackson (D-NC), Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Lori Chavez-Deremer (R-OR), August Pfluger (R-TX), Dale Strong (R-AL), Jake Ellzey (R-TX), and Jake Bergman (R-MI).
