Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.

Representatives from Thornton Middle School and Chick-fil-A Morton Ranch came together on Dec. 9 to officially announce their Adopt-a-School partnership.

CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools and community and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.

Thornton becomes the first official adopted school for the Chick-fil-A restaurant, which works with campuses in Katy ISD. Community Coordinator Katie Ramey said the location wanted to work with CFISD, adding food donations, discounts, theme nights and contests are among the many events and programs Chick-fil-A Morton Ranch makes available to partners.

“We noticed there was a need between the Bridgeland area and Morton Ranch,” she said. “I’m sure there are other businesses that are helping and representing as well, but as far as Chick-fil-A, there’s a gap there and we wanted to branch out and help the school and community. So, we’re exciting to share any positivity now and moving forward.”

Acting Thornton Principal Stacie Wicke said receiving the news right before Thanksgiving made the holiday even more special.

“This is just another extension of community,” Wicke said. “We’re still Cy-Fair, whether it’s a Katy address or a Cypress address. We’re all still together and living in community together. It’s everybody rallying together because we all want what’s best for the kids.”
