Memorial Hermann issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
TIRR Memorial Hermann recently opened a new pediatric inpatient rehabilitation unit at its Texas Medical Center campus.
TIRR Memorial Hermann will begin offering pediatric inpatient rehabilitation for patients six months and older, who have suffered a severe injury or illness. The new unit will consist of eight patient beds that will be customized to meet the rehabilitation needs of pediatric patients.
“TIRR Memorial Hermann is excited to begin this new chapter in our history by offering pediatric inpatient rehabilitation at our campus,” said Rhonda Abbott, CEO of TIRR Memorial Hermann. “By providing this program to pediatric patients, we will be able to continue following patients into adulthood so that they never ‘age out’ and can continue to receive advanced and high-quality rehabilitation care that TIRR Memorial Hermann provides.”
Current patient rooms have been remodeled to accommodate the pediatric patient’s needs. This includes new furnishings, a redesigned gym with pediatric equipment and a refreshed look with child friendly murals and designs. Patients admitted will receive customized rehabilitation provided by pediatric certified therapists, physicians and nurses. In addition, patients will have access to child life and school services.
Pediatric patients with diagnoses including, but not limited to, brain injuries and dysfunction, spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular conditions, orthopedic, trauma and oncology, will be admitted. Upon discharge from the inpatient rehabilitation program, pediatric patients have access to outpatient rehabilitation at multiple locations throughout the Greater Houston area.
TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital ranked No. 3 among the country’s top rehabilitation hospitals and No. 1 in Texas in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospital rankings for 2020-2021.
