Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued the following announcement on Nov. 24.
Cypress Creek High School multisport standout Hallie Shepard was featured during the Nov. 23 Fox 26 “Making the Grade” segment, which showcases top Houston student-athletes for their excellence in both academics and athletics.
Fox 26 reporter Nate Griffin led a Zoom presentation to honor Shepard and recorded the segment with her parents, coaches and campus and district administration. Shepard and her Cypress Creek volleyball teammates reached the area round of the Class 6A postseason, defeating Houston Lamar in three sets on Nov. 19 before seeing their season end against Katy Seven Lakes four days later.
“My parents laid that foundation,” the senior said. “They always taught us to try our best at everything and even if that wasn’t being at the top of the class or anything like that, we had to give 100 percent effort.”
Shepard served as a captain on the volleyball team and her honors include District 17-6A honorable mention and Cypress Creek 2019 Defensive Player of the Year. She is also a 4-year letterman in golf.
“Hallie is the epitome of a scholar-athlete,” Cypress Creek Volleyball Coach Reagan Smith said. “Her ambition and drive for success on and off the court are unmatched. She works to do her best in everything that she does, and she has a keen sense to learn and adapt to difficult situations, both qualities that will take her far in life. I am proud of Hallie’s love of learning, her love for the game and her team, her love of service, and her ability to bring out the best in other people.”

Academically, Shepard holds a weighted 6.8 GPA (on a 6.0 grading scale). She’s been named to the honor roll all four years and is a member of the National Honor Society where she serves as treasurer.
“She’s always liked to have that leadership role and it seemed like a good marriage with her background and influence from us,” Hallie’s mother, Kristen, said.
Added Hallie’s father, Brent: “She’s seen it all and she picks up on things. She’s very inquisitive and asks questions.”
Shepard is also a member of the Cypress Creek Student Athletic Leadership Team, Young Life, Student Council and the He Would Love First organization, where she also serves as treasurer.
“She’s a leader in everything,” Cypress Creek Principal Vicki Snokhous said. “That’s what makes her outstanding. We have a lot of great kids, but she’s a leader academically, athletically and then in her leadership in the clubs and organizations at Cy Creek.”
