CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Toshiba International Helps With Horne Es Beautification Projects

Schoolnews

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.

Representatives from Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) visited Horne Elementary School on Nov. 6 to work on beautification projects and present the school with gifts through their Adopt-a-School partnership.

The projects included painting picnic benches, repairing and cleaning Horne’s garden, washing and painting the school’s “lemonade stand,” which is being used as an information booth while the school undergoes renovations, and working on and around the compost bin.

“We are truly grateful that Toshiba has adopted our school,” said Tracey Bennett, Horne principal. “They have been there for our students and staff for the last two years riding the bus for Bus Buddies, helping set up our science lab and guiding our students for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo presentations, just to name a few activities. Now they are helping us beautify the school during our construction and helping to keep our students safe by donating a water bottle filler. The partnership that we have forged is truly amazing.”

In addition to the beautification projects, TIC gifted Horne a water bottle filler and surprised the school with a $2,000 check.

“By adopting Horne, we wanted to build a long-term partnership between the school and our organization,” said Cheryl Johnson, Toshiba senior human resources generalist. “Horne is located less than two miles from our facility and many employees have generations of family members who attended Horne.”

Through its work and continued support of Horne, TIC was awarded the Chairwoman Award, which honors companies through the Toshiba America Group. The partnership was selected as the winner among 40 different social activities submitted by several companies. Throughout the past two years, TIC has given more than 200 volunteer hours to support Horne.

TIC and Horne have been Adopt-a-School partners since 2018. CFISD’s Adopt-a-School program pairs schools with community and business partners to utilize resources of the community to strengthen and enrich the quality of education for students.
