Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued the following announcement on Oct. 22.
Dr. Michael Contreras, director of instruction at Cypress Creek High School, was named the principal at Labay Middle School on Oct. 22. Dr. Contreras replaces Lanette Bellamy, who was named principal at Cypress Lakes High School on Sept. 25.
Dr. Contreras is in his 26th year in education, 13 of which have been in administration. He began in administration in San Angelo ISD before spending six years in Judson ISD.
He served one year as an assistant principal at Cypress Creek before assuming his current role as director of instruction in 2015.
Dr. Contreras earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University. He recently received his Doctor of Education in Professional Leadership from the University of Houston. He holds a Leadership Partners certification from Rice University’s Executive Education Program.
“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity of serving as the new principal of Labay Middle School,” Dr. Contreras said. “I look forward to building on the traditions of excellence with the Labay community, including the staff, students and parents. We will continue to strengthen the initiatives and build on the culture that makes Labay the wonderful campus that it is. I am excited to be a part of the Labay Eagle family.”
