Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, through Habitat for Humanity International, is now recognized as an official Veterans Build Organization and can now participate in more funding and partnership opportunities to help local veterans and families.
According to the Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, the organization is looking for opportunities with local veteran organizations to figure out the needs of the community. With the designation, the organization can provide more with home repairs in the county.
Nearly 4 million veterans pay at least 30% of their incomes toward rent or mortgage, the National Low-Income Housing Coalition has said. They've noted that more than 1.5 million pay at least 50% of their income toward rent or mortgage.
“We are honored to receive the designation of being a Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build affiliate," Vicki Johnson, executive director of the Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, said. "Through this initiative, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County can provide volunteer, homeownership, and repair opportunities to U.S. veterans, military service members and their families. Most importantly, we can help local veterans, by lifting the housing cost burdens and provide home modifications, health and other supportive services to disabled and aging veterans.”
