Montgomery County has purchased 10 flood-prone homes in continuing buyback program

Montgomery County officials have bought 10 homes so far as part of the county's home buyback program that was implemented to assist homeowners who are the most vulnerable to flooding recoup the costs of their homes.

Community Impact Newspaper n 2016, the county received a Flood Mitigation Award grant. The value of the properties purchased so far is approximately $1,426,500 leaving $5,924,495 in remaining funds, the newspaper reported.

The county has also been awarded other home buyout grants: $8.91 million from a Flood Mitigation Award community development block grant and $12.89 million from a Hurricane Harvey Community Development Block Grant, which would be enough to purchase approximately 72 properties said Jason Millsaps, chief of staff for County Judge Mark Keough/ The newspaper reported the Montgomery County Commissioners Court has submitted an application to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a $10.4 million grant that which would be used to purchase 36 properties.

Of the homes purchased to date, four are in Conroe, three are in Spring, two are in New Caney and one is in Porter.
