Cypress-Fairbanks ISD issued the following announcement on April 27.
Former Cy-Fair High School football standout Braden Mann was selected by the New York Jets in the 2020 National Football League Draft.
Mann, an All-American punter at Texas A&M University, was selected in the sixth round (191st overall) on April 25 and was the first at his position taken during the three-day event.
“This is just really neat,” said Ed Pustejovsky, Cy-Fair High School’s longtime head football coach. “To think that he played at Cy-Fair and all the stuff that he did for us as a player and as a person is just unbelievable. I’m so happy for him.”
Mann was an Under Armour All-American for the Bobcats and was ranked as high as the nation’s No. 2 kicker as a senior by the recruiting website Rivals.com. He signed with Texas A&M and spent his first two seasons as the football team’s kickoff specialist.
In 2018, Mann took over the punting duties and went on to lead the nation in average (51 yards per punt). He set NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision records for highest punting average in a game (60.8 yards against the University of Alabama) and most 60-plus yard punts in a season (14). Mann became the program’s 10th unanimous All-American and won the Ray Guy Award as the nation’s top collegiate punter.
He was named an All-American by Sports Illustrated for the second year in a row in 2019 after finishing fourth nationally in average yards per punt (47.1).
“He had a tremendous work ethic,” Pustejovsky said. “He always worked, was a captain for us and a very good leader.”
Following the draft, two CFISD products signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.
Langham Creek High School graduate Quartney Davis signed with the Minnesota Vikings. The wide receiver played three seasons for Texas A&M University, finishing with 99 receptions for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Cypress Ridge High School graduate Kemah Siverand signed with the Seattle Seahawks. The defensive back spent three years at Texas A&M University before attending Oklahoma State University as a graduate transfer in 2018.
