CYPRESS-FAIRBANKS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Destination Imagination Teams Win Awards At 2020 Regional Contest

 Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District issued the following announcement on March 27

Eight CFISD Destination Imagination teams earned first-place victories at the Gulf Coast Regional Tournament, held Feb. 29 at Cypress Springs High School and Hopper Middle School. Teams competed in the event for the opportunity to advance to the Affiliate (State) Tournament, which has been canceled due to the spread of COVID-19.

Destination Imagination promotes team-building for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who form teams to solve a challenge that incorporates imagination, creativity, collaboration and fun. Teams create a skit with props and scenery that involve one of the following categories: Fine Arts, STEM, Project Outreach and Improvisation.

In addition to the eight first-place winners, CFISD also earned seven second-place finishes.

The following teams were Elementary Level winners:

·Team Girltastics from Birkes Elementary School placed second in Improv—To the Rescue and had the highest instant challenge score;

·Team FDI Unicorns from Gleason Elementary School won first place in Engineering in The Cards;

·Team Sampson Engineers from Sampson Elementary School won first place in Technical—The Big Fix and had the highest instant challenge score;

·The Fire Champions from Swenke Elementary School placed second in Technical—The Big Fix;

·Team Tinkering Turtles from Swenke Elementary School placed second in Scientific—First Encounter;

·Team V2 from Warner Elementary School won first place in Improv—To the Rescue; and

·Team Knights of Destiny from Woodard Elementary School placed second in Technical—The Big Fix.

The following teams were Middle Level winners:

·Team DI Imagineers from Cook Middle School won first place in Improv—To the Rescue; and

·Team DI Legends from Cook Middle School won first place in Fine Arts—Picture This.

The following teams were Senior Level winners:

·Team Brainy Amigos from Bridgeland High School won first place in Fine Arts—Picture This;

·The Gravity Stoppers-End Game from Cypress Ranch High School won first place in eXtreme; and

·Team Majestic Firebreathing Toast from Cypress Ranch High School won first place in Technical—The Big Fix and had the highest instant challenge score.

Teams not advancing but who won special awards were:

·Team Sparks from Wells Elementary School placed third in Engineering—In the Cards;

·The Electric Yellowjackets from Yeager Elementary School had a high instant challenge score;

·Team Seven Secrets from Pope Elementary School had a high instant challenge score;

·Team Bro Bots from Hamilton Middle School placed third in Technical—The Big Fix;

·Team Parkour Platypi from Spillane Middle School placed third in Scientific—First Encounter;

·Team Creative Cookies from Keith Elementary School and Goodson and Salyards middle schools placed second in Improv—To the Rescue;

·Team Ask Me from Aragon Middle School placed third in Improv—To the Rescue;

·Team ME from Spillane Middle School placed second in Service Learning—It’s About Time; and

·Team Dashing Di Know Soar Society from Spillane Middle School and Cypress Ranch High School placed second in Improv—To the Rescue.
