Congressman Morgan Luttrell has introduced the Cartel and Radical Terrorist Enforcement Log (CARTEL) Act. The proposed legislation aims to enhance transparency regarding national security threats from terrorist organizations, including cartels, exploiting U.S. borders.
"Thanks to the Biden Administration’s open-border policies, dangerous cartels have been running our borders and profiting from human and drug trafficking," stated Congressman Luttrell. "Americans deserve to know exactly who is trying to enter our country. The CARTEL Act will provide critical transparency and accountability in the fight to secure our borders and protect our communities."
The CARTEL Act requires Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to report whether individuals on the Terrorist Screening Database (TSDB) were released into the United States. It also mandates tracking of cartel-affiliated individuals attempting illegal crossings. Furthermore, it calls for a comprehensive report to Congress detailing which terrorist organizations, including cartels, are actively seeking entry into the country via northern, southern, and maritime borders.
The bill is cosponsored by Representatives Mike Collins (R-GA), Bryan Steil (R-WI), Daniel Webster (R-FL), Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Jen Kiggans (R-VA), Randy Weber (R-TX), Jack Bergman (MI-01), Michael McCaul (R-TX), and Brian Babin (R-TX).
