WASHINGTON – Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) has sent a letter to Michael Regan, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), addressing recent cybersecurity vulnerabilities identified in community water systems across the United States. The alert from the EPA revealed that many water systems are failing to adequately address cybersecurity risks, underscoring the need for a thorough examination of the current regulatory framework within critical infrastructure sectors.
Congressman Luttrell stated, “The contents of the alert coupled with increasing cyberattacks against community water systems and water treatment facilities serve as a reminder that our critical infrastructure systems are constantly vulnerable to nefarious actors. We must bolster our cyber defenses and work with local jurisdictions in ensuring their capabilities will address ongoing cyber warfare. When it comes to cybersecurity threats, we must be adequately postured to overwhelm and outmaneuver our adversaries. In light of these concerns, I urge your agency to thoroughly examine the implications this will have on our critical infrastructure sectors and what it means for the future of our national security.”
