The Huntsville City Council recently sought to offset the damage brought by the economic crisis created by COVID-19 restrictions by establishing a $375,000 small business assistance program.
The city’s Small Business Resource Grant program offers individual business grants up to $10,000, according to the city. Applicants must meet criteria approved by the Council, including demonstrating losses related to the pandemic.
Applicants are expected to be evaluated based on a comparison of their revenues from March 2019 through May 2019 and those from March 2020 through May 2020. The specially appointed evaluation committee is also expected to interview individual applicants in order to ascertain whether or not they should receive funding.
On top of the funding approved for the Small Business Resource Grant program, the city also allocated approximately $25,000 for a program that offers utility and rental assistance to city residents, according to the release. The program is administered through an interlocal agreement with the Community Organization for Missionary Endeavor (C.O.M.E) Center.
