A recently completed project by Entergy Inc. will provide access to lower-cost power throughout Southeast Texas.

A press release issued by the company said the final phase of the Western Region Economic Project involved the construction of new substations and transmission lines and upgrades of existing transmission lines.

“This project will play a major role in improving reliability and affordability for customers across our region,” Sallie Rainer, president and CEO of Entergy Texas, said. “Our commitment to Texas is to invest in projects that will benefit our customers, create economic activity and power the future growth of our region. During this difficult time, we are committed to continue investing in the community to help move the economy forward – all while taking efforts to keep customer rates low.”

Two geographically separate transmission projects comprise the WREP. The eastern project upgraded an existing 138 kilovolt line between the Newton Bulk Substation near Newton and the Leach Substation near South Toledo Bend. The upgrades were performed last year.

The western project built a new 230 kilovolt transmission line between the Lewis Creek Substation near Willis and the new Rocky Creek Substation west of Huntsville. Work was completed two months ago.
