A COVID-19 disaster relief fund benefiting Greater Houston has distributed grants of at least $12 million to area nonprofits.
The Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund raised approximately $17 million as of July, with the goal of distributing the remaining grant money in August, according to the business consultant Carbonara Group.
Houstonians continue to experience economic hardships as COVID-19 cases increase. As of Aug. 7, Harris County had 81,919 total positive COVID-19 cases.
Donations to the Greater Houston COVID-19 Recovery Fund may be made online or by texting “WEHELP” to 41444.
The Greater Houston Community Foundation and the United Way of Greater Houston began the recovery fund to “to respond to the disaster conditions created by the sudden and unforeseen economic shutdown caused by COVID-19,” said Carbonara Group.
