Pete Sessions, U.S. Representative for Texas’s 17th congressional district, used his social media platform on December 18, 2025, to highlight efforts opposing the rescheduling of marijuana under federal law. In a series of posts, Sessions described co-leading a letter with Rep. Andy Harris and 24 other members of Congress addressed to President Trump.

On December 18, 2025, Sessions wrote: “.@RepAndyHarrisMD and I Co-Led a letter to President Trump, joined by 24 of our colleagues, urging the President to oppose any effort to reschedule marijuana and to keep it classified as a Schedule I drug under Drug Enforcement Administration regulations.

Shortly after, he reiterated his position in another post: “.@RepAndyHarrisMD and I co-led a letter to President Trump, joined by 24 of our colleagues, urging him to oppose any effort to reschedule marijuana.

Reclassifying marijuana would send the wrong message to our children, worsen addiction, undermine public safety, and hand https://t.co/nvSV4xyh6o” (December 18, 2025).

Sessions also thanked those who supported the initiative: “Thank you to the 24 Members of Congress who joined
@RepAndyHarrisMD and I in leading this letter involving public health and safety.

Sessions has been active in Texas politics for several years. He won re-election in recent cycles by significant margins: defeating Mark Lorenzen in the 2024 general election with over two-thirds of the vote; prevailing against Mary Jo Woods in the 2022 general election; and securing victory over Rick Kennedy in the 2020 contest.
