Pete Sessions, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 17th district, addressed several key issues in a series of posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account in early October 2025.
On October 6, Sessions commented on the ongoing government shutdown, stating, “We’re now in week 2 of the Schumer shutdown. My @HouseGOP colleagues and I passed a CR to keep the government open, but Senate Democrats blocked it, even though nearly every Democrat supported the same type of short-term funding extension 13 times during the Biden Administration.”
The following day, October 7, Sessions marked the anniversary of a significant event in the Middle East. He wrote, “Two years ago today, Hamas launched a brutal attack that murdered over a thousand innocent people and took 250 hostages. Their goal is clear: to destroy Israel through terror. America stands with Israel as they continue their fight for survival. We will never forget the victims.”
On October 8, Sessions highlighted his role in supporting young constituents seeking to serve in the military, stating, “2025 Service Academy Nomination Application packets are due tomorrow! It is my great honor as a Member of Congress to nominate the best and the brightest from TX-17 for consideration for an appointment to one of our nation’s prestigious US Service Academies. Good luck to all.”
Sessions has represented Texas’s 17th congressional district since 2021. He secured his seat in successive elections, defeating Mark Lorenzen in 2024 with 66.3% of the vote, Mary Jo Woods in 2022 with 66.5%, and Rick Kennedy in 2020 with 55.9%.
